What We Shipped In 2017 1024 248 Sorcha O'Grady

In 2017, we set out to make our apps easier to use, on more devices, for more users, in more markets. We shipped 8 releases and grew the total number of markets that use our apps to 24.  As the sun sets on 2017, let’s look back at the highlights of what we shipped in the past year.

Brand new Axle Weight Calculator

In April, we shipped a brand new Axle Weight Calculator. This app was rebuilt from the ground up, with a totally revamped design, and taking advantage of latest technologies to make it cross-platform compatible. Our apps can now be used on tablets, including the iPad, laptops and PCs, and across all common browsers. The interface was a huge step up in terms of user-friendliness. To take away the headache of installing software or the need to back up your hardware, your calculations are saved securely in the cloud, where they can only be accessed by you.

Simplified TCO Calculator

Our Sales Tool also got a big facelift, including a much simplified TCO calculator. The TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) of a vehicle is the overall cost of the vehicle over its entire life cycle. Calculating TCO can be a complex task, but in most cases it’s a winning strategy in business management, and there is an ever-increasing demand from buyers to understand TCO.

More trailer and body types
We added the ability to calculate mass distribution for Semi-Trailers, as well as template bodies for Beavertails and Hooklifts.

Unlimited Equipment
We expanded the ‘Other’ category of Equipment to allow you to request anything you need to be added, regardless of whether it fits into an existing category in our library. This means that you can now have true-to-life drawings for everything from a Snow plow to a Hitch, from a Fuel Tank to a Toolbox, and many many more.

Bogie Split
When working with a vehicle with a pusher or tag axle, we now calculate the distribution of weight on the pusher, tag and driven axles (or the ‘bogie split’).

Powerful Integrations

We’ve simplified our billing, invoices, payments, etc. by automating all of it through ChargeBee, a PCI-compliant and highly trusted secure payments platform.

We implemented Live Chat within our apps, to allow you to easily reach out when you need some help.  You can chat to us at any time now by clicking on the green Chat icon on the bottom right of your screen.

Product Tours
As the Irish proverb goes, “Slow is every foot on an unknown path.”  We’ve created tours throughout the apps, for first-time users and regular users alike, to show where to find new features, etc.

Google Sign-in
If you’ve already gone to the trouble of creating a Google account, now you can reuse that account to register for the TruckScience app, without having to provide any further information. We understand that you’re busy people and every minute counts!

Don’t Make Me Think

As the late Steve Jobs once said, “Design is not just what it looks like and feels like. Design is how it works.” We’re constantly striving to make our apps easier to use, so you can save the thinking for the real problems you have to solve.

The usability improvements we’ve made to the app this year include

  • the ability to click on an element in the drawing to edit its position, dimensions or weight
  • a revamp of the Weights table to make the calculations more intuitive
  • changes to the screen layout to hide superfluous information, such as Notes and Warnings and Centers of Gravity
  • improvements to the Search and Save features

Behind the scenes, we have also put a lot of work into improving the performance and stability of our apps.

Have a look!

If you haven’t tried TruckScience before, or haven’t checked it out in a few months, we’d encourage you to take another look.
Looking Ahead

You’ll find our new features will help you be more confident of your calculations and engage customers better.  Providing faster service and superior information will increase their satisfaction levels and willingness to close a deal. You’ll also save time when submitting proof of compliance to the relevant authorities in your market.

Looking ahead to 2018

We’ve got lots to do in 2018 to respond to your feedback.  We ship a new release in general once/month, and we need to hear from you about what features you like to see added next.  Features such as adding multiple load items, calculating turning radius, diminishing load, and many more …

If you use TruckScience already, we’d love your feedback. What do you think of this year’s features? And what would you like to see in the year to come? Please start a chat with our team below to have your say.

Blue Skies

Happy new year and see you in 2018!
