Add Equipment to the library
Existing Equipment categories are Crane, Fifth Wheel, Fridge and Taillift, but you may of course have need for many other items, such as Aerokit, Bullbar, Fuel Tank, Hitch, Underrun Bumper, Snow Plow, Toolbox, and many others.
In this case, if you share a spec sheet with us, we’ll add it to the Equipment library, and thereafter, you will find it in the ‘Other’ category.
Position the Equipment
‘Other’ items of equipment are mounted by default at the back of the cab. In the case of a snow plow, this of course looks a little ridiculous.
To move an item in front of the steer axle, you will need to specify a negative value for distance ‘From Back of Cab’. Just click on the item to open the relevant menu. Similarly, to move it below the chassis, just decrease the ‘Above/Below Chassis’ value.
Your snow plow is in place, and included in the Weights table below the drawing.
More Equipment
You can specify multiple items of equipment at various locations, to represent any after-market component you wish to add to your truck.
You can add as many template ‘Other’ items as you like, and they’ll be represented as rectangles on your drawing, and included in the axle weight calculations, which you will find in the table below the drawing.
Further Usability Improvements
We’ve also changed the default behavior when adding bodies or equipment. The menu now closes immediately, and the item is highlighted on the drawing. Simply click any item on the drawing to open the relevant menu where you can edit its attributes. The menu is also slightly opaque now, so that you can see what’s happening to the drawing as you make changes. Since some of our users didn’t find clicking off the menu to close it to be intuitive, we’ve added a the familiar ‘X’ icon to close the dialog when you’re done.
Vehicles and Equipment added
Remember that you can request vehicles, bodies and equipment to be added to our library at no cost. This month, we added vehicles from Caterpillar, Daewoo, DAF, Eicher, FAW, FUSO, Hino, Isuzu, Iveco, Kenworth, Peterbilt, TATA, UD, Volvo and Volkswagen, Hiab and Palkfinger cranes, Multilift Skiploaders, ‘Other’ equipment items such as Snow Plow, Underrun Bumper, Bullbar, Aerokit, Hitch, Fuel Tanks, Toolboxes, bespoke bodies, bespoke road-painting equipment, binwashers, bespoke trailers, rollbacks and more. These were requested by users in Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Qatar, South Africa, United Kingdom and United States.
